Iran movies win awards at Dhaka filmfest

Iranian movies have won five awards at the 15th Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Held at the Bangladesh National Museum on Friday, the festival honored Iranian movie ‘Daughter’ with two awards.

Directed by Reza Mirkarimi, the movie won the Best Film and Best Actor award at the closing ceremony of the festival.

Parviz Shahbazi’s ‘Malaria’ won the Best Directing Award in the same catorgory as ‘Daughter’.

In the Women Filmmaker Section, ‘Nahid’ directed by Ida Panahandeh won the best feature film award.

Ali Mardomi’s ‘The Cemetery Men’ received the best short film award in the Spiritual Film Section.

Dhaka International Film Festival is a biennial film festival held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Established in 1992, the festival was initially organized on annual basis but became a biennial event since 1995.

The general theme of the festival is “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society.”

The event dedicated a special section to two recently deceased filmmakers Abbas Kiarostami from Iran and Yeşim Ustaoğlu from Turkey.

The 15th edition of the festival was held in Dhaka from 12 to 20 January 2017.
